4 Mile Recovery Run

Who: Alone
What: 4 Mile Recovery Run
Where: Neighborhood. A really spastic series of circles. Thanks, Garmin!

I intentionally kept this one slow and easy. “Each run has a purpose,” says my coach. So… I consciously made myself slooow down.

The run abounded with annoyances. I couldn’t get the footpod to sync, so I eventually left it behind. That may be a problem when I hop on the treadmill.

Then, less than half a mile in, I turned an ankle. Some backstory - I turned my ankles over and over again playing basketball. My family has a history of knee injuries, but I never had a single problem with the knee. But ankles? Yeah, give me a foot and I’ll land on it and roll it.

Anyway, somewhere during that time period when I was turning it CONSTANTLY and having to wrap it and having it swell all the time it was ingrained in my mind that when I land on my foot or an uneven surface and it starts to turn, I just… collapse my body. I really do think this has prevented me from hurting my ankle worse in the past. And so, I fell down onto the ground in a ridiculous manner… but after a little soreness and a little concern, I don’t even think the ankle will swell. So that’s good.

(Fewer)Stats… after the jump.

Totals only for the recovery run:

Distance: 4 Miles
Average pace: 9:28 /mi
Average heart rate: 156 bpm (really nice and easy)
Max heart rate: 168 bpm
