Miscomunicado

I thought the Philadelphia Half Marathon was in September for some reason. I think I got it confused with the Philly Distance Run. I was so certain I was registered for something in September that I thought… “Maybe I did register for the distance run.”

Luckily, gmail saves everything, and I have confirmed that I’m registered for the half marathon. In November. I feel relief that I have two extra months to train.

I’ve been thinking about doing the Houston half in January. Should I do a half marathon so soon afterward? I suppose I could use the Philadelphia half as a warm up half, without an eye on a specific time….? It’s probably unwise to Actually Race with so small a gap…

I’d say racingracing both is bad. You need an A race and that should be your focus. That being said, you could choose either one as your A race. You could run Philly as a warmup, but you’d have to be sure to keep yourself in check and not get caught up in the moment (remember how you have a hard time slowing down, and are a mite competitive at times?), then race Houston. Or you could race Philly, then just run Houston for fun, or give it whatever you have left. Because, really, you should be pretty recovered by the time Houston rolls around, if you take some recovery time, then ramp back up.

I did the Philly Half two months after the PDR last year. You’ll totally be fine. Just ramp down your training a bit, because I got injured not long after that, but I was also running over 20 miles every week. Ugh, marathons suck :) Houston in January though will be awesome!

I didn’t read the previous comment, but I like how Amy and I both used the word “ramp” in opposite directions. Yes, I am a “ramp down” type of girl! Amy, you’re “ramp up,” and I admire you!
