I am not among the people who think the new blogger version 'sucks'. Sure, it lost a post or two but I mostly know what caused that - a poor connection. And I did like the new look of it. And I still think it is an outstanding free tool that provides very easy publishing to people who do not wish to geek out on technology.
But I was disappointed in the new version. It took a lot of work, I am sure... but the work was mostly under the hood. It has a new look, and I like the new look, but there aren't any new features. Given the long development time and the full features of other publishing options out there, I was hoping for something more.
So, given my propensity for growing bored with the status quo, I am now using Movable Type. This is my first post, though if I have done everything correctly I imported all my old blogger posts. All of them. Pretty easily. I'm impressed (assuming it worked).
Movable Type is a bit more difficult to setup than blogger. If you aren't a tech savvy person, you would likely get lost quickly. But, it provides far more control over my environment here. It uses mySQL to keep track of things, which is far more efficient than before. And it has plugins that I can play with to keep my boredom down, sort of like postnuke. There are tons of new toys - I actually need to play with them before I talk about them, so you may hear more about this stuff in the future.
In the meantime, hopefully I've done this right and it will be seamless for you the reader. The biggest downside is that I am going to lose comments. There is no easy way to import from the dotcomment system, the sloppy mess I was using before. I may try to do something manually, so hang in there.
