My feet hurt, and the wind is making my hair move.

This morning, I attended the kickoff breakfast for the American Cancer Society's 'Making Strides Against Breast Cancer' fund raising campaign here in New Jersey. The breakfast is for the team leaders at individual corporations. These team leaders will organize fundraising efforts and teams of walkers over the next few months. The walkers will collect donations (sponsors) for a walk, to be held in October. Other fundraising usually involves food, denim days, dressdown days... you know, the types of things that get corporate employees excited for whatever reason. And a good time will be had by all.

I have attended this same session for the past two years. Our corporate partner is a flagship sponsor, and my company does our part, though our particular area is relatively small in comparison to our client (while our actual parent corporation dwarfs our client... so, yeah, the business world is weird). The breakfast is always a good experience, with lots of people with personal stories of survival, along with more good humor than you'd expect, given the subject. Which I appreciate, since humor has always been my best weapon when dealing with something serious.

As a team leader, I'll be organizing, but I will also be walking. The ACS has a nice little feature this year that will allow people to donate to the cause over the internet. I have to set the team page up (which I will likely do later tonight) and then at some point I will be posting a link to the donation site.

So I guess I'll save the begging for when the link actually comes up... but there will be begging. This should be refreshing, though, after the number of websites out there that beg for you to pay their hosting bills or pay off their credit card debt or pay for their dog to get plastic surgery. Or whatever.

This year, we want to do our best fundraising, because the receptionist in our office is currently undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. What a crappy way to get a mascot. So yeah... don't hate me too much when I put up the link, and if you have an extra $5 kicking around, think about tossing it into the pot.

UPDATE: Hrm, I thought I did this last night. Anyway, here's a link, if you are so inclined.
