Because, you know, a post with a single cogent topic is a little too much to ask from me right this moment.
Spirited Away is f'ing brilliant. I absolutely loved it. The imagery is strong, the writing outstanding, and there aren't many of the cultural translation problems that you see in so many other anime films converted for an english speaking audience. The movie grabs archetypes and twists them while still keeping them familiar. Great kids movie - it respects them. It doesn't feel the need to throw tons of noise (both visual and auditory) at the screen to keep their attention. Man, I can't recommend it more.
Ghost ship is 'teh suck'. I was laughing hysterically at how stupid it was just minutes into the movie, and things didn't really improve.
After watching several episodes of Teen Titans on Cartoon Network, I can definitely say that they are skewing the show much younger than I might have hoped. It doesn't play well to an adult mindset. I understand what they are trying to do - they want to pull the Dragonball Z crowd into the DC universe. Whatever.
I will say that the episodes can still be entertaining, but they certainly don't approach the quality of Justice League... and nothing will likely ever challenge Batman TAS for adult comic animation. I think they should call the show 'Preteen Titans', because they don't act like real teenagers. Also, writers that intentionally try to write 'hip' usually just end up looking sad and stupid. And these writers try to write 'hip' all the time.
Great theme song though.
Work is busier than it has any right to be.
Looking forward to a roadtrip on labor day weekend. We are going up into Vermont (I think) to meet Alikat's dad and stepmother and stepsister. Shopping for a new wardrobe is on the list. I wonder how much money we can afford to spend?
Cancer sucks. Help me do something about it. Thanks.
Uh... I'm done now.
